WHAT IS SPRAY FOAM?

Spray Foam (SPF) is an insulation material made from Polyurethane Foam. It's remarkably adaptable and the mixture is easy to adjust for any customer's requirement. Spray Foam's semi-solid nature makes it suitable for pipe work, roofing and other solid structures. Despite being sprayed out as a liquid, this foam is flexible, making it ideal for roofing and wall insulation. It's also lightweight, making it useful for flotation for docks, and boats as-well. For all of you summer cottage goers!

Why Spray Foam Is the Insulation of the Future

Since 1990’s, Spray Foam has become one of the hottest insulation products on the market. Its effectiveness has displaced even traditional insulation materials, demonstrating superior value per inch of air sealing ability.

CLOSED CELL POLYURETHANE SPRAY FOAM INSULATION

This type of Spray Foam is considered the best because the multiple cells that make up the foam are encapsulated onto themselves. In other words, they are virtually impenetrable to moisture, taking care of any mold vapour worries.

This Insulation material is a simple two part that is created through a physical change. The first part being recycled materials and the second part is organic waste materials. When heat is applied and sprayed on a wall or ceiling (or anything), it expands to roughly 50 - 100 times or it's original size.

WHICH FOAM DO YOU CHOOSE?

When choosing any insulation product, you'll need to consider such factors as the cost, how much you'll save in energy bills, how long you're holding your property and the improvements that come with energy efficiency.

We also recommend that you hire a professional to apply Spray Foam on your site, rather than waste your money on a Do-It-Yourself kit. And if you're still not sure about energy efficiency upgrades, you can always hire an energy consultant to inspect your building, give you a report on areas for improvement and inform you about any rebates you might be eligible for (depending on the province where you live).

7 REASONS TO USE SPRAY FOAM

1. SUPERIOR AIR BARRIER PROPERTIES
Spray Foam is able to block air leaks much more effectively than other types of Insulation. Traditional Insulation materials ex: rigid Foam board or fibreglass may slip out of place over time, leaving spots for air to penetrate the home. In addition, when installing wall insulation, these materials rarely fill the entire wall cavity, which means air can usually find a way into the home between the sections of insulation, or at the top or bottom of the wall. Polyurethane Spray Foam fills the entire space, leaving fewer gaps for air leaks. This material is also denser than many other insulators, and provides a tight, impenetrable barrier to air and leaks.

2. SUPERIOR INSULATION
When traditional fibreglass methods are field installed using traditional methods, much is lost due to inexact fit, ineffective air barrier and broken vapour barrier are the end result.  Polyurethane Foam does not suffer from the installation challenges of traditional methods.

3. INCREASED ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Air barrier sealing and a superior insulation material result in increased energy efficiency. This can mean a reduction in the use of heating or cooling systems, which can result in lower energy bills and fewer carbon emissions. A well insulated house may even allow you to choose smaller air conditioning and heating systems, which can save both money and space.

4. NEVER SAGS OR BREAKS DOWN
Polyurethane Foam bonds to the surrounding substrates as it is installed. This bond holds the foam in place for the life of the building ensuring its effectiveness lasts offering ongoing savings.

5. ACOUSTIC BENEFITS
Low density Polyurethane Foam has excellent sound absorption properties and sound transmission properties. When comparing polyurethane foam to other insulations, there is a very noteworthy difference. As an effective air seal, it eliminates the air gaps through which sound travels easiest. Low density Polyurethane Foam Insulation is superior in controlling mid- range frequencies that include the most common sounds, the human voice and stereo music.

6. COSTS
While Polyurethane Spray Foam Insulation is generally more expensive than traditional methods, it's true cost may actually be much lower. Spray foam serves as insulator, vapour barrier, and moisture barrier, eliminating the need for most exterior caulking, building paper, and separate vapour barriers. Not only does one save the cost of these materials, but there is an associated

installation saving. Rather than buying and installing four or more products, a single application of Spray Foam can be used instead. When the cost of Spray Foam is compared to the total cost
traditional methods and related weather proofing systems, Foam actually appears to be the more affordable option.

7. FLEXIBILITY
Because Polyurethane Foam expands to fill a space, it offers many benefits to those in need of a flexible insulating material. It is particularly useful when filling oddly-shaped spaces, or those subject to some type of obstruction. Spray Foam also allows for smaller, thinner walls, which means more flexibility with living space. It's also great for floor insulation and ceiling insulation.
